LIBERTY CITY — A luxury apartment developer has hired an armed gang to preserve the “raw, uncompromising energy” of an Algonquin block whose remaining residents were removed for lowering property values.

The thirty-eight-storey Brickhouse Residences offers exposed pipes, distressed concrete and a rooftop garden tenants may view through reinforced glass. Studios start at $6,400 a month. The brochure describes the absence of a kitchen as freedom from domestic expectations.

Developer Curtis Vell invited reporters to meet his new Authenticity Director, Eddie “The Receipt” Spano, beside a burning delivery scooter. Spano said the fire was unrelated to his contract but he was prepared to invoice for it.

“Buyers want the neighborhood they saw in films,” Vell explained. “They just don’t want to meet anyone who lives in it.”

Spano’s crew was initially retained to shout beneath balconies, conduct visible envelope exchanges and discourage competing coffee shops. Trouble began when residents complained that the shouting interfered with a subscription meditation session.

The crew responded by offering quieter intimidation at twice the price. Vell described the increase as evidence that the area was improving.

At the launch reception, two rival crews arrived. One claimed the block. The other claimed the parking concession. Both had been separately hired by Vell’s marketing department, which had tested better with consumers when described as a family business.

An argument over territorial rights became a brief gunfight. Guests sheltered behind a marble reception desk while the estate agents continued explaining that none of the internal walls was load-bearing.

Councilman Milton Sway, crouching beside the champagne fridge, called the incident “a vibrant exchange between local stakeholders.” He approved a zoning amendment from under the desk. Spano witnessed the signature and charged a document fee.

I had accepted the press offer of a night in the show apartment after my Los Santos van was seized. When I returned, its door had been replaced with a turnstile. My overnight stay now counted as a residential tenancy, making me responsible for the building’s entire affordable-housing commitment.

Police eventually restored order by arresting the delivery rider who had returned to ask about his scooter. Both gangs were told to submit their invoices through the residents’ portal.

Vell says the launch exceeded expectations. Every apartment overlooking the shooting has sold.

My room is back on the market as a journalist’s historic residence. I’m still inside it. Viewing is between nine and eleven.
